Technology. Entertainment. Design. Independently Organized. Boston. University.
Acronyms can mean a lot of things. They can create new words or slurs based on a group of words. At Boston University, we have more acronyms than we know what to do with. There are BU (Boston University) students in CAS (College of Arts and Sciences) studying BMB (Cell Biology and Molecular Biology) and students in SMG (School of Management) that could be going to the UPO (Undergraduate Program Office) to seek information about their OB (Organization Behavior) concentration. Students can seek assistance at the ERC (Educational Resource Center) or the CCD (Center for Career Development). It is important to slow down sometimes and break these acronyms down because they pack so much information in such a simple string.
As a independently organized event, as noted by the 'x', TEDxBU strives to embody TED's message: to spread ideas worth spreading. The first conference existed were Technology Entertainment and Design converge and the current themes are much broader. Our offshoot event acknowledges these areas of study but focuses on a topic much closer to our hearts: Boston University.
Much of our speakers have spend time studying at Boston University. Some have studied four years and graduated with a Bachelors, others are three years into a doctoral program. Others are professors or directors at BU and others are still undergraduate students. A few have not spent time inside a BU classroom, but their spark addresses Boston University, such as analyzing the education system that allowed many students to reach the caliber of an admitted BU student.
Our speakers and guests will be the words that create TEDxBU. They will share their sparks, whether it is redesigning the current society or education systems or levering entertainment media to spread a message. Although individually we all mean and stand for something different, together we can mean something.
Together, we are TEDxBU.
